OUR HISTORY

Informally organized Texas state teams have existed for over 40 years. These efforts have typically been sponsored by various local gun clubs with the ability to provide range access, equipment, and willing adult leaders. In many cases, junior shooters from these clubs collaborated to shoot in national competition under the banner of the Texas State Rifle Association with some impressive results.

The organization of a legal entity to manage these efforts was achieved with the April 2018 incorporation of “Texas Junior Rifle Team, Inc.” as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are sanctioned by the Texas State Rifle Association to compete as a TSRA entity.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Affiliated local clubs recruit and organize team members for their organization.
  • Local training and practice is scheduled and managed by the local coaches, club members, and interested parents.
  • Rifles, equipment, and ammunition is provided by the local club and team parents in most cases.
  • Team members participate in competition matches throughout the year ranging from local club hosted to state and regional events.
  • The local team manages and approves competitive scoring milestones and qualifications for establishment of national individual ratings and competitive levels.
  • Each year, state team coaches conduct two practices and multiple qualification events involving shooter candidates for the US National Matches. Performance at these events and results from recent matches are used for selection of the members of the State Team representing Texas.
  • State team leaders and other volunteers organize rosters, travel, schedules, match assignments, equipment, and expected cost planning.
